The WATOC 2025 organization does not offer private transportation for the participants.
However, on this page we provide some information that might be useful for getting to Oslo from Oslo airport Gardermoen (OSL), and for getting around the city.
Airport to/from the city
There are many ways to get to the city from Oslo airport Gardermoen (OSL). The fastest way is by train, from which you can reach the city in around 20 minutes. The main station in the city center is Oslo Central Station (or Oslo S, also known as Jernbanetorget).
Trains
Airport Express (Flytoget)
The Airport express train (Flytoget) departs Oslo airport Gardermoen (OSL) every 10 minutes from Track 3. All airport express trains stop at the central station and the journey takes approximately 20 minutes. The price is 252 NOK (approximately €22) and tickets may be bought through the Flytoget app, the Flytoget website, or by simply tapping the contactless card reader (tap and go) next to the escalator down to Track 3 at OSL.
Vy trains
Vy, Norway’s government-owned national railway operator, provides regular train services between Oslo airport Gardermoen (OSL) and Oslo Central station from Track 4. Vy trains offer a slightly slower and more infrequent, but more affordable service than the airport express trains at 129 NOK (approximately €11). Tickets may be bought through the Vy app, the Vy website, the Ruter app (see Getting around Oslo - Public transport below) or at ticket machines at OSL and the central station. The Vy trains from/to the airport are included in the Oslo Pass. More information about the Oslo Pass and code for a 20% discount for WATOC participants on the "Social activities" page.
Buses
Airport Express Bus (Flybussen)
The Airport Express Bus (Flybussen) have departures every 20 minutes from Oslo airport Gardermoen (OSL) to the city center from platform 12 just outside the arrivals hall. It takes about 70 minutes to reach the city and the price is 259 NOK (approximately €22). Tickets may be bought through the Flybussen website or directly on the bus.
Taxis
Taxis are available outside the arrivals area at Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) and offer a convenient, though more expensive, way to reach the city center. You can find the taxi booking machine just outside of the terminal building as you leave the arrivals hall. Several taxi companies operate with fixed prices for rides to downtown Oslo, typically priced around 900 NOK (approximately €80). Travel time is usually around 40–50 minutes, depending on the traffic.

Getting to the conference venue
From Oslo Central Station (also known as Oslo S or Jernbanetorget), the conference venue—Oslo Congress Center (Youngs gate 21)—is just a short 650-meter walk. For an even shorter walk, you can take tram lines 12, 15, 17, or 18, or bus number 54 to the Storgata stop. From there, it’s only a 250-meter walk to the venue. For ticket information, see Public transport below.
Getting around Oslo
There are many options to get around the city; here are a few of them.
Walking
Especially if you are staying in the city center, you can comfortably reach most places on foot. Oslo is a safe city to walk around in, even at night. You can use Google Maps to navigate around the city and estimate the time and distances to reach your destination.
Public transport
Oslo has a great public transport system, which offers metro (T-Bane), buses, trams, trains and ferries, all using the same ticket. You buy your ticket directly in the Ruter app and you can plan your trips using the app. Simply buy and activate the ticket in the app before boarding — you only need to show your ticket to inspectors during random ticket controls. You must have an internet connection to show the ticket. In the app you can buy single (valid for 1 hour), 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days tickets. If you prefer a physical card, you can get one and top it up in one of the kiosks (Narvesen, 7-Eleven, and Mix) in the city. Be aware that if you use a physical card, you must tap it to activate your tickets when you board.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to use your debit/credit card directly to pay for your ticket. Oslo does not have the "tap and go" solution that is available in other cities. Within most of the city you will need a ticket only for "zone 1". For going from/to the Oslo airport Gardermoen (OSL) you need a ticket valid for zones 1, 2Ø, 3Ø and 4N.
The Oslo Pass also includes public transportation tickets, valid within Oslo and to/from the Oslo airport Gardermoen (OSL). More information about the Oslo Pass and code for a 20% discount for WATOC participants on the "Social activities" page. Bikes and e-scooters
Getting around Oslo is convenient and eco-friendly with the availability of e-scooters and city bikes. There are at least three major providers of e-scooter and electric bikes: Voi, Ryde and Bolt, offer user-friendly apps that allow you to easily locate and rent e-scooters. Check their apps for their rules. For cycling enthusiasts (they also have some electric bikes available), the city's Oslo Bysykkel provides a smart bike-sharing system with numerous stations throughout the city.
Taxis and car apps
There is more than one taxi service provider in Oslo. The biggest and most reliable is Oslo Taxi (they offer the Taxifix app). For apps, the two major providers are Bolt and Uber.
