WELCOME

[ Words of welcome ]

Welcome to the 13th Triennial Congress of the World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists

On behalf of the local scientific and organizing committees, it is my pleasure to invite you to the 13th Triennial Congress of the World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists (WATOC 2025), to be held from June 22–27, 2025, in Oslo, Norway. This congress will represent the largest international gathering of theoretical and computational chemists in 2025, with an expected attendance of approximately one thousand participants.

The scientific program will feature 12 plenary lectures, 150 invited talks, 150 invited communications, and three poster sessions, providing numerous opportunities for participants to engage with the most recent developments in the field and to disseminate their own research. The congress is organized into 75 thematic sessions covering a broad spectrum of subjects, including electronic-structure theory, molecular and quantum dynamics, catalysis, spectroscopy, materials science, medicinal chemistry, machine learning, quantum computing, and more.

Prof. Trygve Helgaker,
Chair of WATOC 2025

A new feature for 2025 is the Young WATOC conference, which will take place on 21st June, immediately preceding the main congress. This event is designed to showcase the work of young researchers who have defended their PhD theses in 2020 or later. While the presentations will be given only by early-career scientists, Young WATOC is open to all WATOC participants and aims to foster broader engagement across the community.

WATOC 2025 will be held at the Oslo Congress Centre, conveniently located in the heart of the city, offering an ideal setting for both scientific discourse and the exploration of Oslo. The congress is organized by the Hylleraas Centre for Quantum Molecular Sciences at the Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo, with the support of a broad International Advisory Board of WATOC 2025.

We look forward to welcoming you to Oslo for what promises to be a highly stimulating and exciting congress.

On behalf of the local scientific and organizing committees,
Trygve Helgaker
